With the Stage Three relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in Western Australia it has become possible to recommence services at All Saints and St Mary's - and this will be happening from Sunday 7 June.
The basic requirements that still apply are:
- Please don't attend if you are even a little bit unwell with cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Please wash your hands thoroughly before arriving, and use hand sanitiser which is available at the door of the church.
- Maintain 1.5m physical distancing with others (apart from those you live with) and avoid physical contact such as hand-shaking.
The WA Government has relaxed the physical space requirement from 4 sq m to 2 sq m, ie. a hall or enclosed area with 64 sq m floor space could accommodate up to 32 people subject to the 1.5m physical distancing rule also being maintained. In our churches the main restriction is the 1.5m rule which affects how many people can be seated in the pews. For our churches:
- All Saints can accommodate 20 people in addition to the priest and LA in the sanctuary
- St Mary's can accommodate 36 people in addition to the priest and LA in the sanctuary.
This means the St Mary's Sunday 10am service can accommodate the number of people we expect to attend at this time. However the number of people we expect will wish to attend Sunday services at All Saints could not be safely accommodated. For this reason there will be two services offered at All Saints:
- Saturday 4.00 pm
- Sunday 7.30 am
Regular attenders at All Saints will be asked to nominate which service they will attend, and in particular to consider whether they can attend on Saturday afternoon service. This is necessary to avoid the possibility of anybody being refused entry on Sunday morning.
For the time being, we will not be singing hymns at our Saturday/Sunday services as communal singing has been implicated in the transmission of the coronavirus (see https://focus.masseyeandear.org/is-singing-in-a-choir-safe-during-covid-19-a-voice-expert-explains-the-risk/). We will be reviewing this decision as we go forward.
There are also mid-week services at both centres. These are:
- Tuesday 10.00 am Eucharist at All Saints.
- Wednesday 10.00 am Eucharist at St Mary's
- Thursday 4.30 pm Meditation/Evening Prayer at All Saints
As some people may still be required to self-isolate on medical advice, an e-service will continue to be offered for the time being. This will be a live-streamed service of Prayer, Praise and Proclamation led by Fr Evan with two Liturgical Assistants. To tune into the live-stream service simply enter https://meet.jit.si/SwanParishLivestreamService into a Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser (on PC or Mac) or on the free Jitsi Meet app (IOS or Android). The "room" will be live from 2.50 pm on Sunday afternoon with the service beginning at 3.00 pm. You will need to enter the password (Swan) in order to enter the room. If you are unable to catch the service live it will be available as a video on the Swan Anglicans YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/HbOA2cgSaKg) from Sunday afternoon at 4.00 pm.
I wish to record my thanks to the parish Liturgical Assistants who have generously volunteered to assist me at all of these services, and also to those who have volunteered as hosts and COVID Disinfectors to ensure that our centres remain COVID free. A copy of the COVID plan for each building is on display at the entry.
